Starting your own DIY terrarium can be a rewarding and creative way to bring life into your home.

Cacti
Succulents
Ferns
Vine plants
Peace lilies
Syngonium white butterfly,
Orchids
Monstera Adansonii
Create the base layer:
Start with a layer of stones at the bottom to help with drainage and prevent water accumulation and root rot.
Add a thin layer of activated charcoal to prevent odours and mould.
Follow with a layer of moss to separate the soil from the drainage layer.
Finish with a well-draining potting soil for optimal plant growth and moisture control.
Potting mix:
Add a 3 cm layer of your aroid potting mix on top of the charcoal. Place your plants on the mix, spreading out the roots. It's okay if they aren't fully buried yet. Once all the plants are in place, spoon a small amount of the mix and pebbles to cover the roots completely.
Terrarium decoration
Add any coloured rocks or figurines for decoration.
Water:
Lightly mist the terrarium with a spray bottle. To check if your terrarium needs water, poke your finger into the soil. If it feels dry, it's time to water.
Avoid overwatering, it's so easy to kill with too much love.
Maintaining the Terrarium
Water only when the soil is dry, typically every 1 to 2 weeks.
Avoid direct sunlight to prevent overheating.
Prune your plants to maintain shape and prevent overcrowding.
Avoid overwatering to prevent mould and root rot.
Monitor moisture levels and adjust watering accordingly.
Promptly remove dead plant material to prevent decay.
Clean glass containers regularly to maintain clarity and prevent algae growth.
You'll also need:
Small stones or pebbles: Use gravel from your yard for the base layer to aid drainage.
Soil: Potting soil is essential. Most types will work fine, and you'll need about a handful.
Activated charcoal: This helps keep the terrarium water fresh and prevents bacteria growth. It's easy to find even if you don't already have it.
Small tools: A pencil, chopstick, small trowels, long spoons will be helpful and gloves
Decoration: Add anything to make your terrarium unique. Moss adds color, and small objects can bring it to life.
